Apache Cassandra
Workspace 0.4.0 connects to Cassandra through CQL. It reads schema and reported topology, samples connection latency, and runs bounded, read-only queries. Cassandra 5.0.9 is the tested baseline.
Connect
Choose Cassandra in the connection dialog. Enter the host, CQL port (9042 by default), and username and password when authentication is enabled. Set Keyspace to use unqualified table names in the console, or leave it empty and qualify table names in your queries.
The adapter uses only the configured endpoint. It does not open connections to other addresses advertised by cluster discovery. This also applies through an SSH tunnel.
For TLS, choose Require. Certificates and the original database hostname are verified, including through SSH. Use CA certificate file (optional) for a private PEM CA bundle. Workspace does not disable verification for local or tunneled connections.
Use a database role with SELECT permission on the data you want to inspect. A SELECT-only role was tested with the demo keyspace. System views depend on permissions and server capabilities; unavailable diagnostics are explained in the affected view.
Views
| View | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Overview | Server and keyspace details, schema counts and measured CQL round-trip latency. |
| Topology | Node information reported by Cassandra's system tables. |
| Keyspaces | Keyspaces and replication settings. |
| Tables | Table definitions and storage settings. |
| Columns | Column names, CQL types and key positions. |
| Indexes | Secondary index definitions. |
| Estimates | Server-reported partition estimates; these are not exact row counts. |
| Compactions | Local compaction metadata, when permitted. |
| Console | A read-only CQL SELECT with history, saved queries and CSV/JSON export. |
Topology is metadata, not a health check of every node. Workspace does not collect Cassandra JMX CPU, heap or throughput metrics. The activity chart measures the time taken by a CQL request. Catalog views show up to 200 records.
Read-only CQL
The console accepts one SELECT at a time. This example uses the local fintech demo's ledger_ops keyspace:
SELECT amount_minor, currency, status
FROM transactions_by_merchant
WHERE merchant_id = 'merchant:001'
LIMIT 100;
Use the partition key and a limit appropriate to your schema. An accepted read can still be expensive on the server. Writes, batches, USE statements and arbitrary user-defined functions are unavailable. Changing the connection's Safe Mode setting does not enable writes in this adapter.
Input is capped at 64 KiB and displayed results at 1,000 rows or 8 MiB. Workspace stops waiting after 10 seconds. Stop waiting interrupts the client wait; Cassandra may finish executing the read on the server. It is not server-side cancellation.
Large integers are displayed and exported as strings, preserving their exact value. Exports contain the displayed result, not a table dump. See query history and export.
